Frantoio Trees
Origin: Italy
The Frantoio olive tree is originally from Italy and more specifically, the Tuscany region. It produces a small to medium size oval shaped olive suitable for table olives, however best known for its high quality olive oil. The Frantoio variety is particularly attractive, with its unique gnarled frame and silvery-green leaves.
Hardiness: Extremely hardy
Light: Full sun tolerant, will grow in shade
Water: Once water hardened, water occasionally. Tolerates drought.
Soil: Best soil is well drained pH 5.5-8.5 with fertilisers such as Searles premium potting mix or similar, to reduce stress during transplant. In addition, tonics such as Charlie Carp or Seasol should be added to water in the first few weeks after transplant.
Pros: more resistant to mould than Manzanillo.
If growing for fruit, high stability and excellent quality for extra virgin olive oil.

MANZANILLO TREES
Origin: Spain
Manzanillos are the most widely planted variety in Australia due to their productivity and high quality fruit. It produces a medium size, round shape olive and makes for excellent table olives and oil.
Hardiness: Extremely hardy
Sun: Full sun tolerant, will grow in shade
Water: Once water hardened, water occasionally.
Tolerates drought.
Soil: Best soil is well drained pH 5.5-8.5 with fertilisers such as Searles premium potting mix or similar, to reduce stress during transplant. In addition, tonics such as Charlie Carp or Seasol should be added to water in the first few weeks after transplant.
Pros: Excellent wind break and suits both potting and planting direct in the ground.
